Fri, 4 September 2009 Dominick Dunne, the bestselling novelist and Vanity Fair writer who chronicled the misdeeds of the rich and famous with wicked glee -- most memorably in his highly personal accounts of the trials of Claus von Bulow, the Menendez brothers and O.J. Simpson -- died Wednesday at his home in New York City. He was 83.
The cause was bladder cancer, according to the Vanity Fair website, where his death was announced.
Dunne had recovered from prostate cancer in 2001 but was diagnosed with bladder cancer last year. Although ill, he covered Simpson's recent armed robbery trial in Las Vegas, which resulted in a pronouncement of guilt -- a verdict that Dunne awaited for more than a decade.
Covering the last Simpson trial capped an extraordinary career that had bloomed from tragedy. Dunne was a television and film producer for two decades until drugs and alcohol ruined him. He had started life over as a writer when his daughter, Dominique, was slain in 1982.
Dunne wrote an article for Vanity Fair magazine that raged at the injustice of the crime and the leniency of the killer's punishment. The story propelled its author into a new career reporting from the intersection of celebrity, society and scandal. He filled the niche with panache, becoming, according to the Cambridge History of Law in America, "one of the nation's premier popular chroniclers of notorious criminal trials and lawsuits involving celebrities."
He wrote a column, "Dominick Dunne's Diary" and hosted a Court TV program, "Power, Privilege and Justice." His absorption with money and privilege led one writer to call him the "Boswell of the bluebloods," while another less charitable critic dubbed him "the Jacqueline Susann of journalism."
What was indisputable was that Dunne -- with his silver hair, tortoiseshell glasses and Turnbull & Asser finery -- became a celebrity in his own right, sympathizing with crime victims, skewering the perpetrators and riding in limousines to his front-row seat at their trials.
He unabashedly declared his belief that Simpson was guilty of the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife, Nicole, and her friend, Ron Lyle Goldman. He disparaged Erik and Lyle Menendez, the handsome brothers convicted of shooting their parents to death at their Beverly Hills mansion. Dunne slyly dissected Phil Spector, the eccentric record producer convicted of murder this year, calling him "a drama queen, albeit straight."
When Dunne wasn't covering a sensational trial, he was writing intimate profiles of movie stars, socialites and newsmakers -- "the only person writing about high society from inside the aquarium," former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown once said. Many of his subjects were friends from his previous life, such as Elizabeth Taylor and Gloria Vanderbilt. Others were highly placed friends of friends, such as former Philippines First Lady Imelda Marcos, who gave him an exclusive interview shortly after she and her husband took up life in exile, and Lily Safra, the international jet-setter whose banker-husband Edmond was killed in a suspicious fire.
Like Truman Capote, another social chronicler, Dunne often bit the well-manicu s that fed him. A friend of Alfred and Betsy Bloomingdale of the department store fortune, he turned Alfred's relationship with his mistress, Vicki Morgan, into a roman a clef, "An Inconvenient Woman" (1990). Similarly, Dunne, who had been a guest at the 1950 wedding of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Skakel, turned his theories about the culpability of Ethel's nephew, Michael Skakel, in a long-unsolved slaying into another novel, "A Season in Purgatory" (1993). Skakel ultimately was tried and convicted. His cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., blamed Dunne for the conviction and told talk show host Larry King that the writer was "not a journalist. He's a gossip columnist."
If, as Capote said, all literature is gossip, Dunne was a believer. He loved to "dish," giving rumor equal time with news in his Vanity Fair reports. His story on the Safra slaying, for instance, was an engrossing brew of fact and rank speculation as only Dunne could produce. He repeated hearsay and used unnamed sources liberally, such as a "well-connected woman once married to a prominent figure in the film world" or "a waiter serving me risotto" at a dinner party. Dunne had everyone whispering in his ear.
His willingness to entertain nearly any source made him the target of an $11-million defamation lawsuit by former California Rep. Gary Condit after Dunne told a bizarre, unsubstantiated story on national television and radio programs that implicated Condit in the 2001 disappearance of Washington intern Chandra Levy. He apologized to Condit and paid an undisclosed sum to settle the lawsuit in 2005.
Born Oct. 29, 1925, he was the second of six children in a wealthy Hartford, Conn., family. One of his brothers was John Gregory Dunne, the late screenwriter and novelist who was married to another literary celebrity, Joan Didion.
His early life was marked by a poor relationship with his father, a prominent heart surgeon, who belittled his son for being a sissy. Dunne himself professed astonishment when he earned a Bronze Star during World War II for rescuing a wounded soldier at the Battle of the Bulge.
TV stage manager
After earning his bachelor's degree at Williams College in Massachusetts in 1949, he moved to New York and found work as a stage manager for the "Howdy Doody Show" and later for "Robert Montgomery Presents."
Vanity Fair reports
In 1954, he married Ellen Griffin, an heiress. They had two sons, Griffin and Alexander, in addition to Dominique. Two children, both girls, died within days of being born.
Ellen Griffin Dunne, from whom he was divorced in 1965, died in 1997. He is survived by his sons and a granddaughter, Hannah.
In 1957, Dunne moved to Los Angeles to work on the CBS showcase "Playhouse 90." Two years later he was executive producer of the ABC drama "Adventures in Paradise."
* By 1970, he was producing films. His credits include "The Boys in the Band" (1970), "The Panic in Needle Park" (1971), "Play It as It Lays" (1972) -- based on the Didion novel of the same name -- and "Ash Wednesday" (1973).
He and his wife hosted lavish parties at their Beverly Hills home, most notably a black-and-white ball for their 10th wedding anniversary in 1964 with a guest list that included Nancy and Ronald Reagan, Natalie Wood, David Niven, Billy Wilder, Gina Lollobrigida and Capote, whose fame was about to peak as the author of "In Cold Blood." The party inspired Capote to give his own black-and-white ball two years later at New York's Plaza Hotel, a legendary affair that included 500 of the biggest names in literature, Hollywood and society. "He didn't invite us," Dunne noted whenever he told the story.
Another favorite Dunne story took place at the Daisy, a Rodeo Drive club popular with the Hollywood set. He was dining there one night in the 1960s when Frank Sinatra, with whom he'd had a testy relationship, paid a waiter to punch him in the face.
Although Dunne led a famous person's life, he felt like an impostor whose success did not match that of his peers. "Within me, I knew I would never be a first-rate producer. I wasn't tough enough," he wrote in Vanity Fair's 25th anniversary issue last October. His social ambitions ruined his marriage, and he began drinking excessively and abusing drugs. In 1969, he was arrested for possession of marijuana.
The final act in his self- destruction was when he told an offensive joke about the powerful Hollywood agent Sue Mengers and the Hollywood Reporter printed it. That was when he knew that "my demise as a film producer was imminent." He had no more work and was so broke he sold his dog.
"When you're down and out, there's no meaner place to live than Hollywood. You can get away with your embezzlements and your lies and your murders, but you can never get away with failing," Dunne said years later.
In 1979, he left Hollywood and drove to Oregon. He decided to stay, stopped drinking and using drugs, and contemplated his failures. One night he went to bed with a knife beside him, intending to , only to be jarred awake by a phone call telling him that his youngest brother, Stephen, had committed suicide.
After his brother's funeral, Dunne decided to start over in New York as a writer. He had gotten the idea a few years earlier, after a chance encounter in the Beverly Hills Hotel with a Washington Post writer who went to college with Stephen. The reporter came to Los Angeles to investigate reports that David Begelman, then head of Columbia Pictures, had been embezzling funds by forging the signatures of some of its top stars -- most notably Cliff Robertson -- on studio checks. No one in Hollywood would return the reporter's calls so he asked for Dunne's help.
"Nothing could have pleased me more," Dunne recalled in his 1999 memoir, "The Way We Lived Then: Recollections of a Well-Known Name Dropper." "I knew all the players. I knew all the phone numbers. I knew everyone's back story. And I was furious that I had become a reject." He found the investigative work exhilarating and told himself that he "could do what these reporters do."
His first assignment was to write "The Winners," a sequel to gossip columnist Joyce Haber's popular novel "The Users." Released in 1982, it was poorly reviewed but for Dunne it wasn't a bad start.
Then came the tragedy that would define the second half of his life: His actress-daughter, Dominique, 22, was strangled by her boyfriend, John Sweeney, a chef at a tony West Hollywood restaurant.
The day before Dunne flew to Los Angeles for Sweeney's trial, he attended a dinner party where he met Brown, who had just taken over as editor of Vanity Fair. She asked him to keep a journal during the trial and come see her when it was over. "If I hadn't kept that journal, as Tina suggested, I would have gone mad," Dunne later wrote. "What I saw in the courtroom filled me with the kind of rage that only writing about it could quell."
The 1984 article that his journal became, "Justice: A Father's Account of the Trial of His Daughter's Killer," was a powerfully dry-eyed indictment of the legal proceedings that found Sweeney guilty of the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. Vanity Fair reports
Dunne signed a long-term contract with Vanity Fair but also tackled fiction again, this time producing a bestseller, "The Two Mrs. Grenvilles" (1985), based on the sensational Woodward murder case in 1955. His last novel, "Too Much Money," is scheduled for release in December.
But his trial coverage became his signature.
"He was unique," veteran Associated Press trial reporter Linda Deutsch told The Times recently. "He always said, 'I'm for the victims.' "
Dunne wore his sympathy for victims of heinous crimes like a badge of honor. "I made no pretense of doing balanced reporting about murder," he wrote in his memoir. "I was appalled by defense attorneys who would do anything to win an acquittal for a guilty person."
He reported the juicy details that others ignored -- how Menendez defense lawyer Leslie Abramson strode down a courthouse corridor giving the finger to the swarm of photographers following her and how fans sent bouquets to Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark. He also was a wily analyst of character, revealing mores, conceits and other flaws through well-observed details and scenes in which he was as much a participant as a reporter.
After Von Bulow's acquittal in a 1985 retrial on charges he attempted to kill his wife with insulin injections, Dunne interviewed the aristocratic former defendant at the opulent apartment on New York's Fifth Avenue that he was then sharing with the woman Dunne described as his "self-proclaimed" mistress, Andrea Reynolds. In a surreal scene, Dunne found himself following Reynolds into Sunny von Bulow's former bedroom, where Reynolds had expensive garments laid out on the bed. It seemed to Dunne the appropriate moment to ask about the rumors he'd heard: Was it true that as Sunny Von Bulow lay unconscious in a nursing facility Reynolds wore her clothes and jewels? Perez Hilton who made a career of writing on his blog, Perezhilton.com, and his tv show about other people's drama got into trouble in Canada. He used a gay slur word against somebody in the crowd. Then, he accused Will.I.Am of punching him repeatedly in the face. It has been shown that Will.I.Am did not punch him, but a fan did the facial on him. That was not the end of the drama. In the cyberspace, Perez Hilton wants to cast himself as the victim of this brawl. He can be seen talking, almost crying about punch.
Does he ever remember that what he did to the recent Miss California? He reportedly trashed her down. Now that he wants to sue Will.I.Am, how far will he get? He may want to sue his manager. Category: People/Celebs/Newsmakers -- posted at: 2:47 AM Comments[0] |
Sat, 21 February 2009 Wow, this was a serious attack by Chris Brown on Rihanna. TMZ managed to get a copy of the picture of the bruised face of Rihanna. Now LAPD has launched an investigation into this leak. This is also a serious matter for the department in terms of confidentiality.
Chris Brown will be linked for ever with domestic violence. No wonder they could not appear at the Grammy award ceremony. She as disfigured. Shame on Chris Brown! When money and fame, fast car and fast women collided, the result can be toxic. It has been said that the dispute started over some sexy texts Chris had received. Rihanna threw the key of his expensive car out into the woods. who knows why?

Sat, 4 October 2008 Neither side in the courtroom disputed that O.J. Simpson and five associates marched into a hotel room in September 2007 intent on getting back the former NFL star's footballs and plaques. But during closing arguments Thursday in Simpson's armed robbery and kidnapping trial here, jurors were presented with conflicting accounts of most everything else about the alleged crimes. Throughout the four-week trial, prosecutors argued that Simpson was the mastermind of a brief, chaotic robbery. Simpson's defense attorney, meanwhile, maintained his client was the victim of opportunist acquaintances and overzealous prosecutors and police. "This case has taken on a life of its own because of Mr. Simpson's involvement," said defense attorney Yale Galanter in his 90-minute closing remarks. Simpson and codefendant Clarence Stewart are charged with a dozen crimes in connection with the six-minute altercation at Palace Station Hotel & Casino. Prosecutors say they took up to $100,000 in collectibles at gunpoint from a pair of memorabilia dealers. Four former codefendants -- two of whom said they were armed at Simpson's behest -- testified for the prosecution. Simpson maintained he never saw a gun or asked anyone to bring one to Room 1203. In a one-hour presentation, Dist. Atty. David Roger played snippets of secretly recorded conversations. Simpson spoke on the recordings about getting back stolen mementos with "the boys," whom he wanted to "look menacing." Simpson, Roger said, also asked two associates to "bring some heat" -- one of the few exchanges not captured on tape. During the trial, jurors repeatedly listened to the resulting encounter, in which Simpson associate Michael McClinton could be heard shouting at others in the room to stand up "before it gets ugly in here." Roger said that "intimidation, force, violence -- those are just a few of the adjectives of things that happened in that room." Several witnesses in the room testified that the Simpson told them afterward that "there were no guns." But in a conversation after the incident, which McClinton surreptitiously recorded, Simpson is heard asking whether McClinton had pulled out "the piece" in the hotel hallway. Roger argued that it made little legal difference whether the items originally belonged to Simpson. In a "civilized community," Roger said, people go to police or file a lawsuit to retrieve purportedly stolen goods. "People who go into hotels with guns to rob people of property must be held accountable for their actions," he said. In his final remarks, Simpson's defense attorney crumpled a piece of paper, tossed it into the trash and pronounced that argument "garbage." "This is the foundation of this man's life," said Galanter, gesturing to several footballs in clear plastic. Simpson's milestones, he said, were "measured in one-of-a-kind footballs." Tue, 11 March 2008 ![]() Eliot Spitzer is getting caught in this current scandal. He is saying sorry to his family and the people of New York for transporting a high-priced prostitute from New York to Washington to engage in affairs. All the networks have been talking about "Why do Men cheat," "cheating hearts," "Men of power and opportunity," "Understanding Infidelity." Eliot Spitzer used to root out bad behaviors on Wall Street and in New York's Business. For that, he was named the New York top cop. Now he is nabbed by Emperors' Club. He will start to beg for his political life. With three teenage daughters in his life, he has a lot of explaining to do. So far and just like the other powerful men caught in sexual scandal, his wife stood by his side. The wife of the Governor of New Jersey stood on his side when he said, "I have been having a relationship with another man." Hilary Clinton stood on her husband's side when he proclaimed, "I did not have sex with that woman." It is all about power. The Emperors' Club conveyed power to this man. He was willing to pay top money to transport a woman of ill repute to Washington for his own use. Was it a set up by all of his ennemies, many of them are very powerful? The hunter becomes the hunted.

Wed, 14 November 2007 Is Vietnam ready for the publicity generated by this young TV star's sex video? Maybe not. Instead of thrusting her in the spotlight, the video appears to have destroyed Hoang Thuy Linh's TV career. Vietnamese all over the world are not ready to forgive her for this lapse in judgment. On her TV show, she was playing a virgin schoolgirl. Well, her show got canceled. Who is to blame here? The young man who made the video with her or Hoang? Or the persons who posted the video on the Internet? Here's the latest development of the story. "On Thursday, Hanoi police detained four college students accused of posting the sex clip to the Internet. They could face charges of “spreading depraved cultural items, which carries a sentence of six months to 15 years if convicted. Police identified the man in the clip as 20-year-old Vu Hoang Viet, who is currently studying overseas. They said a friend copied the film off of Viet’s laptop, and passed it along to other friends who then posted it online. Most of the public’s wrath has been directed at Thuy Linh rather than Viet. “People will forgive him, but not her, said Tran Minh Nguyet of the Vietnam Women’s Union, which promotes gender equality. “Vietnamese think it’s OK for a boy to have sex at that age, but not for a girl. It’s absolutely unfair.

I think we did. You said so. I don't disagree with that. OFFICER: Okay. I don't want to get into a pissing match here. CRAIG: We're not going to. OFFICER: Good. Um, CRAIG: I don't, ah, I am not gay, I don't do these kinds of things and... OFFICER: It doesn't matter. I don't care about sexual preference or anything like that. Here's your stuff back sir. Um, I don't care about sexual preference. CRAIG: I know you don't. You're out to enforce the law. OFFICER: Right. CRAIG: But you shouldn't be out to entrap people either. OFFICER: This isn't entrapment. CRAIG: All right. OFFICER: Um, you you're skipping some parts here, but what what about your hand? CRAIG: What about it? I reached down, my foot like this. There was a piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up. OFFICER: Okay. CRAIG: What about my hand? OFFICER: Well, you're not being truthful with me, I'm kinda disappointed in you Senator. I'm real disappointed in your right now. Okay, I'm not, just so you know, just like everybody, I, I, I, treat with dignity. I try to pull them away from the situation. CRAIG: I, I OFFICER: And not embarrass them. CRAIG: I appreciate that. OFFICER: And I. CRAIG: You did that after the stall. OFFICER: I will say every person I've had so far has told me the truth. We've been respectful to each other and then they've gone on their way. And I never had to bring anybody to jail because everybodys been truthful to me. CRAIG: I don't want you to take me to jail and I think. OFFICER: I'm not going to take you to jail as long as you're cooperative but I'm not going to lie. We… CRAIG: Did my hand come below the divider? Yes. It did. OFFICER: Okay, sir. We deal with people that lie to us every day. CRAIG: I'm sure you do. OFFICER: I'm sure you do too, sir. CRAIG: And gentleman so do I. OFFICER: I'm sure you do. We deal with a lot of people that are very bad people. You're not a bad person. CRAIG: No I don't think I am. OFFICER: Okay, so what I'm telling you, I don't want to be lied to. CRAIG: Okay. OFFICER: Okay, so well start over, you're gonna get out of here. You're gonna have to pay a fine and that will be it. Okay, I don't call media, I don't do any of that type of crap. CRAIG: Fine. OFFICER: Okay. CRAIG: fine OFFICER: All right, so lets start from the beginning. You went in the bathroom. CRAIG: I went in the bathroom. OFFICER: And what did you do when you… CRAIG: I stood beside the wall, waiting for a stall to open. I got in the stall, sat down, and started to go to the bathroom. Ah, did our feet come together, apparently they did bump. Well. I won't dispute that. OFFICER: Okay. When I got out of the stall, I noticed other stalls were open. CRAIG: They were at the time. At the time I entered, I stood and waited. OFFICER: Okay. OFFICER: Were you (inaudible) out here while you were waiting? I could see your eyes. I saw you playing with your fingers and then look up. Play with your fingers and then look up. CRAIG: Did I glance at your stall? I was glancing at a stall right beside yours waiting for a fella to empty it. I saw him stand up and therefore I thought it was going to empty. OFFICER: How long do you think you stood outside the stall? CRAIG: Oh a minute or two at the most. DK: Okay. And when you went in the stalls, then what? CRAIG: Sat down. DK: Okay. Did you do anything with your feet? CRAIG: Positioned them, I don't know. I don't know at the time. I'm fairly wide guy. OFFICER: I understand. CRAIG: I had to spread my legs. OFFICER: Okay. CRAIG: When I lower my pants so they won't slide. OFFICER: Okay. CRAIG: Did I slide them too close to yours? Did I, I looked down once, your foot was close to mine. OFFICER: Yes. CRAIG: Did we bump? Ah, you said so, I don't recall that, but apparently we were close. OFFICER: Yeah, we'll your foot did touch mine, on my side of the stall. CRAIG: All right. OFFICER: Okay, And then with the hand. Um, how many times did you put your hand under the stall? CRAIG: I don't recall. I remember reaching down once. There was a piece of toilet paper back behind me and picking it up. OFFICER: Okay. Was your was your palm down or up when you were doing that? CRAIG: I don't recall OFFICER: Okay. I recall your palm being up. Okay CRAIG: All right. OFFICER: When you pick up a piece of paper off the ground, your palm would be down, when you pick something up. CRAIG: Yeah, probably would be. I recall picking the paper up. OFFICER: And I know it's hard to describe here on tape but actually what I saw was your fingers come underneath the stalls, you're actually to touching the bottom of the stall divider. OFFICER: You don't recall CRAIG: I don't believe I did that. I dont. OFFICER. I saw. I saw. CRAIG: I don't do those things. OFFICER: I saw your left hand and I could see the gold wedding ring when it went across. I could see that. On your left hand, I could see that. CRAIG: Wait a moment, My left hand was over here. OFFICER: I could tell it with my, ah. I could tell it was your left hand because your thumb was positioned in a faceward motion. Your thumb was on this side, not this side. CRAIG: well we can dispute that. I'm not going to fight you in court and I, I reached down with my right hand to pick up the paper. OFFICER: But I'm telling you that I could see that so I know that's your left hand. Also I could see a gold ring on this finger so that's obvious it was the left hand. CRAIG: Yeah, ok. My left hand was in the direct opposite of the stall from you. OFFICER: okay. You travel through here frequently, correct? CRAIG: I do. CRAIG: Um, CRAIG: Almost weekly. OFFICER: Have you been successful in these bathrooms here before? CRAIG: I go to that bathroom regularly. OFFICER: I mean for any type of other activities. CRAIG: No. Absolutely not. I don't see activity in bathrooms. OFFICER: It's embarrassing. CRAIG: Well its embarrassing for both. I'm not gonna fight you. OFFICER: I know you're not going to fight me. But that's not the point. I would respect you and I still respect you. I don't disrespect you but I disrespected right now and I'm not trying to act like I have all kinds of power or anything, but you're sitting here lying to a police officer. CRAIG: I, I, I, OFFICER: I'm not a (inaudible) I'm getting from somebody else. I'm (inaudible) CRAIG: Inaudible. CROSSTALK OFFICER: I am trained in this and I know what I am doing. And I say you put your hand under there and you're going to sit there and... CRAIG: I admit I put my hand down. OFFICER: You put your hand and rubbed it on the bottom of the stall. With your left hand. CRAIG: Now, wait a moment. OFFICER: And I, I'm not dumb, you can say I don't recall... CRAIG: If I had turned sideways, that was the only way I could get my left hand over there. OFFICER: It's not that hard for me to reach. (INAUDIBLE) It's not that hard. I see it happen everyday out here now. CRAIG: (inaudible) you do. All right. OFFICER: I just, I just. I guess, I guess I'm gonna say I'm just disappointed in you sir. I'm just really am. I expect this from the guy that we get out of the hood. I mean people vote for you. CRAIG: Yes, they do. OFFICER: Unbelievable, unbelievable. CRAIG: I'm a respectable person and I don't do these kinds of... OFFICER: and INAUDIBLE respect right now though. CRAIG: But I didn't use my left hand. OFFICER: I thought that you... CRAIG: I reached down with my right hand like this to pick up a piece of paper. OFFICER: Was your gold ring on your right hand at anytime today?

Wed, 29 August 2007 First it was Mark Foley and the pages issues. Now it is Idaho Republican senator Larry Craig who is caught solliciting gay sex in a men's restroom in Minneapolis airport. He was trying to bite the wrong bark by taping to get the undercover police officer's attention. The officer responded by showing him his badge. If he was there to do number two, he was caught right in the middle of it. Of course, he wanted to intimidate the bathroom-based officer. He brandished his U.S. issued senator card this way. "Here is this. What are you going to do about this?" The officer was not afraid of him. He wrote his detailed report. Now everything else is part of the news. Larry Craig wanted to make this go away. He reasoned he would plead guilty and it would go away. The incident occurred in June. It is now that everybody is finding out about it. Yet, he stood up with his wife, suzanne, to proclaim that he is not gay. "While I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct in the Minneapolis Airport or anywhere else, I chose to plead guilty to a lesser charge in hopes of making it go away." He said he kept the information from his friends, family and staff, adding, "I wasn't eager to share this failure but I should have anyway because I am not gay." http://shopnowshop.com/fertilitygold/priestgonewild.html (Catholic Priest Gone Wild for Sex) http://shopnowshop.com/fertilitygold/citysoap.html (Gavin Newsome Got Some) http://shopnowshop.com/fertilitygold/oldermen.html (Older Men's Sperm and Autism Rise)

Wed, 4 July 2007 Good Magazine's co-publisher was traveling in an environtmentally sound vehicle, a blue Toyota Prius. He was traveling at 100 MPH. The speed attracted the attention of a sheriff who stopped him. He smelled the stench on him and started searching the car for contraband. He found a stash of Xanax, Marijuana, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall. That was almost a mini pharmacy. An illegal one. Who would think that such a young man from a great family would be doing drugs? The epidemic does not choose families. Mr. Gore did not have a prescription for any of the drugs found in his possession. It was not the first offense for the only son of Mr. Gore. "The son of the former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee also was pulled over and arrested for pot possession in December 2003, in Bethesda, Md., while he was a student at Harvard University."

Sun, 3 June 2007 Members of the media will have access to a cordoned area outside the jail. Photographers, TV crews from around the world have already staked their position and will be able to report on the Fashion Chic supermodel's arrival at the jail. No wonder that media around the world will report from Los Angeles. Once more, Paris Hilton will be the main story for the few upcoming weeks. Lindsay Lohan's story will be old. The same can be said of the other celebrities. All her money and that of her parents, all the contacts they have ever had is not enough to keep her out of jail. Well, it may not be jail that the rest of us could know. But it will be a souped up type of jail for the Hilton heiress. Now, according to reports from those who are currently in jail, a lot of them are not too happy with the authorities' special arrangements for the Simple Life's star and author's arrival. They are asking why they have to make special room for the starlet at the expense of other inmates already coping with crowded situations. Paris Hilton will have to learn quickly that she has to shut her mouth and do the time. Various reports show that the facility where she is going to be at is no Hilton Hotel with all kinds of amenities and room service. It is located in an industrial neighborhood, near train tracks and beneath a bustling freeway. Paris is to serve 23 days at the jail. If she has good behavior, she may be there for a short time. She will be housed in the "Special Unit" area. Inmates are not allowed to bring any contraband such as cell phones into the jail. She will be issued an orange jumpsuit, a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, a comb, deodorant, shampoo and shaving implements, jail-issued pencil, stationery, envelopes and stamps. Mark these words: Once she has served her time, Paris Hilton will have a story to tell. She will turn it into a money-making experience unlike some of us who have had some run-ins with the law. Fri, 13 April 2007 After making these despicable remarks about the Rudgers Women basketball players, Don Imus's days were numbered. It was just a matter of time before Moonves cut him loose. The decision was taken despite the announcement of a conversation with the players. It was out of their hands. The whole controversy or scandal could have been avoided if he realized that the culture had changed. Leslie Moonves wants to set an example with Imus who has had a history of making these kinds of remarks. "There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our
young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this
society," CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said in
announcing the decision. "That consideration has weighed most heavily on our
minds as we made our decision." Moonves realized the importance of this firing with this message to the rest of the staff, In a memo to staff members, Moonves said the firing "is about a lot more than Imus." "He has flourished in a culture that permits a certain level of objectionable expression that hurts and demeans a wide range of people," Moonves said. "In taking him off the air, I believe we take an important and necessary step not just in solving a unique problem, but in changing that culture, which extends far beyond the walls of our company." CBS and MSNBC had to do something. Advertisers were asking for suspension. Imus forgot that he had to create a pleasant forum to keep the advertisers happy. Here is a list of advertisers who wanted out of their contract. Sponsors that pulled out of Imus' show included American Express Co., Sprint Nextel Corp., Staples Inc., Procter & Gamble Co. and General Motors Corp.http://videpinions.microcreditcapital.com Category: People/Celebs/Newsmakers -- posted at: 2:21 AM |

Fri, 6 April 2007 s there anything that Rosie O'Donnell
is not going to do to bring attention to The View? Well, she is not
short of ideas. Rosie's recent allegations that the capture of 15
British soldiers was a hoax perpetrated by the U.S. and Britain to
escalate hostilities in Iran.
Now, was Bill O'Reilly
right to take the fight to Rosie? Well, all he did was that he
responded to her allegations. He did it O'Reilly's style. He
chastised The View's star and just wished ABC would shut her up. This
is not the first time that O'Donnell picks up a fight. A few months
ago, she tore up Donald Trump
who responded to her attack as rabidly as he could. Many observers
just know that it is just a question of ratings. All the other View
ladies excuse themselves and let Rosie do the dirty job. She knows
which cords to strike to get the reactions of the country. Believe me
she will have press time for some time until she attacks somebody else
who is in power. Rosie will not pick on somebody who does not have
star power. For example, some bloggers do not want to blog on her
allegations because they do not think she is worth their time. We are
blogging on her allegations because the capture of the soldiers is not
fake. It is real news. There is no diversion of attention to some hot
news here. We believe that these soldiers are truly caught and are
wondering what is going to happen to them in the Iranian cells. If
those were made up news, why would a government want the price of
gasoline to go up a good few months before the 2008 elections? It is
not even Summer. The cost of gas is going up.
No matter what, take your seat and be ready to watch the show. It is showbiz in this country. Bill O'Reilly is benefitting. The same goes to Rosie O'Donnell's show, The View. Category: People/Celebs/Newsmakers -- posted at: 9:59 AM Comments[0] |

Sun, 10 December 2006 After all the partying, Britney Spears comes back to her sense. She said she is sorry for taking her new found freedom too far. In her attempts to explain her pantyless night on the town trips, Britney said that every move she makes has been magnified. She wants people to know that she is serious about her music and wants to be there for her kids. Any way, as if she was ready to pitch some new lines of underwear, she announced she found some great underwear from Victoria's Secret new line of panties. No, she is not going to accept The View's offer to clothe her private parts.
"It's been so long since I've been out on the town with friends. It's
also been 2 years since I celebrated my birthday. Every move I make at
this point has been magnified more than I expected, and I probably did
take my new found (sic) freedom a little too far. I look forward to a
new year, new music and a new me. I'm just getting started....Happy Holidays everyone!" Britney Spears has been partying with well-known Hollywood party girls Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. Britney Spears is not like these two girls anymore. She has responsibility towards her two young children. Her friends and parents are saying that she should not put herself out there like this. "Spears and Federline, 28, have a 1-year-old son, Sean Preston, and an
infant son, Jayden James, who was born Sept. 12. Spears is seeking
custody of both children, with visitation rights for Federline." In the past few years, Paris Hilton has been able to get lots of publicity for her books, The Simple Life, fashion and hot videos shot by her then-boyfriend Category: People/Celebs/Newsmakers -- posted at: 9:07 AM Comments[0] |
Wed, 6 December 2006 The blogosphere and podosphere worlds have been reporting the recent acts by Britney and her friends. Even established media such as ABC, The View women, NBC, Cable networks of course, and CBS reported on the superstar's public antics and misbehaviors. For sure, websites dedicated to Britney have been reporting the events too. Nobody has mentioned the serious issues the young mother of two, soon-to-be divorcee, may have. In the limelight or spotlight of celebrity, we may have a young woman who wants to have attention. What other ways to have it other than creating a scene with her most private parts? In addition, when you are hanging out with Paris Hilton and her club, what else can Britney think about? She created a show for the cameras of paparazzi. They took complete advantage of her. On a more serious note, Britney may show signs of postpartum depression. Two young children to care for, lots of lawyer and court appointments besides the hounding by celebrity-crazed fans and photographers. She is fighting a beast. She is climbing a huge mountain. We are not diagnosing that she has Postpartum depression. What else could push, drive somebody to go out without any panties and open her legs as she did. Wearing a short black little dress, she did not try to stop anything.

Wed, 5 April 2006 It is now an official story. Katie Couric is leaving NBC at the
end of May for the green stations of CBS News & 60 Minutes.
She is joining a great network with a great tradition. But at the
same time, CBS is acquiring a heck of a workaholic for its news
division. Katie is a great worker, a trailblazing of a
woman. Hey, it is time that we say congratulations to her.
She or her agents held their ground and found something worth moving
to. Katie Couric made the announcement this morning on NBC. The crew showed her in a 172-year hair style sitting close to Bryant Grumble who had previously left for CBS. Then, soon after the clip, her sidekick on the Today Show, Matt Lauer, introduced her breaking news. Katie said the following: "I wanted to tell all of you out there who have watched the show for the past 15 years that after listening to my heart and my gut _ two things that have served me pretty well in the past _ I've decided I'll be leaving 'Today' at the end of May," she said. "I really feel as if we've become friends through the years." "Sometimes I think change is a good thing," Couric said. "Although it may be terrifying to get out of your comfort zone, it's also very exciting to start a new chapter in your life." "It's hard to imagine being here and not having you sitting next to us," co-host Matt Lauer told her. Between now and then, NBC has the opportunity to be grateful to her. Good job for Katie Couric. She was featured on the Washington Post's papers. <p>----------------------------------------- <p>This article is first published on <a

Fri, 3 February 2006 Is it freedom of expression? That is what European news organizations want the rest of the world to understand. Muslims all over the world feel that their prophet is being ridiculed. The Danish newspaper shows the prophet surrounded by suicide bombers. In the cartoon, Prophet is complaining about the lack of virgins to suicide bombers. Now these scene arrangements can not sit well with the Muslim doctrine. So far, Danish goods and relations are taking some heat in most Middle East countries. The cartoon which is reprinted in several European newspapers causes an uproar. It lampoons Mohammed. The protests that are making news tend to lag behind the publication of the cartoon in the Danish paper. For Europeans, it is a huge joke. For Muslims, it is an offense. That is the difference of views between the Western, more secular world and that of the Islam-dominated world. Try to understand the followers of Islam You will not find any pictures of Prophet Mohammed anywhere. Why? It is blasphemous to draw any pictures of the prophet. Imagine how this cartoon affects the religious sensibilities of this part of the world. We can co-exist in this world if we try to understand each other. This is a case of understanding. Religious leaders are accusing the editors of this Danish newspaper as wanting to spite the Muslims. Other hard news: A ship carrying more than 1300 passengers from Saudi Arabia disappeared from the radar. This is more than a Titanic-like catastrophe! Well, based on her selection of a visible minority young woman, we can say it is going this way. Young, beautiful and well-educated, Paul Martin made a daring move by appointing a journalist who is an immigrant from the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere to the governorship. Who is Michaelle Jean? Michaelle was born in Haiti. She emigrated to Canada with her parents. Once there, she applied herself to work and learn five languages. She is fluent in five languages. She is a quick learner. Her family and she visited the Queen of England at Balmoral. She showed that she has the mojo, the skills to be elevated to such a higher position. By the way, she knows how to wave and work the crowd. She also hugs people too. Way to go, lady! Category: People/Celebs/Newsmakers -- posted at: 4:38 PM |
Sat, 21 January 2006 The only heir to Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis fell heels over head for the 32-year old Brazil's equestrian champion, Alvaro Alfonso "Doda" de Miranda Neto. They got married in the Morumbi district under strict surveillance. Last December, they did not want paparazzi to bother their ceremony. The couple met in Belgium where she was receiving equine training from a Brazilian expert. Maybe, he also served as matchmaker par excellence. Who knows? Any way, the minute Athina laid eyes on the Brazilian champion, she was petrified and started making plans to have this guy become her riding companion for life. The couple have common interests. They were born into money. It is not an issue. Their love also centers on horses. That is the life of the blue blood, the new aristocracy. While Athina may be a bigger fish, Doda is the son of one of Brazil's top industrialists. In a previous relationship with a model, Doda has a daughter. For her wedding, Athina wore a white Valentino dress which shows her bare chests. The couple will live in Sao Paolo. This relationship shows that the age gap issue is not only a Hollywood fixture. In Brasil or anywhere else, as long as the two people are in love, the relationship will go on. Category: People/Celebs/Newsmakers -- posted at: 10:32 AM Comments[0] |

"For any prime minister of Israel who decides he will carve it up and give away, God said, 'No, this is mine.' I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course," Pat Robertson said. A spokesman for the tourism industry of Israel said, "We can not accept these statements.."
